BIOGRAPHY
보 킴(Bo Kim, b.1994)은 미국의 로드아일랜드 디자인스쿨(RISD)에서 회화(BFA-Painting)과로 학위를 취득한 뒤, 현재 국내에서 활동하고 있는 작가이다. 작가는 자연과 인간의 시차 속에서 관찰되는 ‘비 (非)영속성’의 개념을 미학적 대상으로 삼아 탐구한다. 작가는 자신과 관계를 맺고 있는 인간, 자연, 물건 등 모든 것들이 항상 영구적인 상태가 아닌 끊임없는 변화를 맞이한다는 사실을 바탕으로, 흐르는 시간을 수용하면서 특정 순간을 시각화한다. 특별한 하루를 일기로 남기듯 작가는 자신의 기억과 생각을 작품으로 시각화하는데, 이러한 창작 행위는 동일하게 흐르는 시간 속에서 상대적인 의미로 다가오는 시간을 자신만의 방식으로 기억하고, 기록하고, 나아가 그 시간이 지닌 형상과 의미를 깊이 체화하려는 시도로 볼 수 있다. 그 과정에서, 작가는 모래, 한지, 꽃 등 자연 친화적인 재료들을 작품에 활용하는데, 이는 단순히 보킴에게 창작의 행위가 무언가를 만드는 일이 아니라, 자연이 지닌 물성을 통해 자연과 인간을 넘나드는 비영속적인 시간의 특성을 감각하고 알아가는 시간이라고 할 수 있다.
Bo Kim (b. 1994) is an artist currently in South Korea, who earned a degree in Painting (BFA) from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in the United States. Bo explores the aesthetic of 'impermanence' observed between the gap of nature and humanity. Based on the understanding of relationship within human, nature, objects—is in constant flux rather than in a permanent state, the artist visualizes specific moments while embracing the passage of time. Similar to journaling a significant day, Bo visualizes personal memories and thoughts into her work. This creative act can be seen as an attempt to remember, record, and deeply embody the form and meaning inherent in the fleeting moments relative to the flowing time. In this process, Bo utilizes materials from nature such as sand, hanji (traditional Korean paper), and flowers. Not only the act of creation, Bo sensitizes and understands the idea of impermanence in time that transcends both nature and humanity through the elements from nature.
