Sejoong Kim (b.1977) began his artwork, focusing on nature as the source of all things and the foundation of human life and existence in the mid-2000s. He employs hyper-realistic painting techniques to represent nature not merely as an external subject but as a mystical entity imbued with time and symbolic of infinite eternity. Kim Sejoong’s works are rendered in such a way that they appear more real than reality itself. He has recounted an experience where, upon encountering pebbles on the beach, he felt as if the pebbles were speaking to him like people. This surreal experience is, in a broader sense, linked to his aesthetic vision. By visualizing the concept of time as a form of eternal stasis through the materiality of pebbles, Kim Sejoong’s art transcends the mere realistic depiction of natural objects, engaging with the fluid interplay between reality and eternity. Kim Sejoong has held numerous solo exhibitions at galleries, including the Kim Sejoong Museum and the Park Soo-keun Museum. He recently won the grand prize at the Hoban Cultural Foundation Young Artist Art Competition. His works are part of collections at the Hanwha Group, Gwangju Museum of Art, Kim Hong-do Museum, and Park Soo-keun Museum, among others.

BIOGRAPHY
김세중 (b.1977)은 2000년대 중반 시작된 초기작업에서 모든 만물의 근원이자 인간 생활과 삶의 터전으로서의 자연에 관심을 갖고 극사실주의적인 회화기법으로 구현해왔다. 작가는 자연을 단순히 외적으로 재현하는 소재로 삼은 것이 아니라 시간이 함축된 신비로운 대상으로 보았고 무한한 영원을 상징하는 영적 공간으로 보았다. 김세중의 작품은 실물보다 더욱 실물처럼 재현되어 있다. 작가는 바닷가에 펼쳐진 조약돌을 마주했을 때, 조약돌이 마치 사람처럼 자신에게 말을 거는 인상을 받았다고 회상한 바 있다. 이러한 비현실적인 경험은 넓은 의미에서 작가의 미학적 체험으로 이어진다. 해변에서 조약돌을 보며 정지된 시간, 다시 말하면 영원한 시간을, 작가는 돌멩이라는 물질에 담아 작품으로 시각화한다. 이처럼 김세중의 돌멩이는 한낱 자연물을 사실적으로 묘사한 것이 아니라, 현실과 영원한 시간을 유동하는 대상으로서 이해할 수 있다. 김세중은 갤러리를 비롯하여, 김세중 미술관 박수근 미술관 등에서 다수의 개인전을 열었고, 호반문화재단 청년작가 미술공모전에 대상을 최근 수상한 바 있으며, 한화그룹, 광주시립미술관, 김홍도미술관, 박수근미술관 등에서 김세중의 작품이 소장되어 있다.
