BIOGRAPHY
김창영(b.1957)은 실제 모래를 사용하여 해변에서 흔히 볼 수 있는 모래사장을 매우 사실적으로 그린다. 모래사장의 장면을 재구성한 김창영의 그림에는 모래 가루가 작품의 표면을 채우고 있어 그림이 실물처럼 보이는 착각을 일으킨다. 이러한 일루전 효과는 김창영 작품의 가장 큰 특징이며, 그 바탕에는 현실에서 만질 수 없는 시각만의 세계를 기록하려는 근본적인 목적이 있다. 물 위에 비치는 형상, 하늘의 무지개, 모래의 그림자와 같이 만질 수 없는 현실의 영역을 회화로 소환한 것이다. 눈으로 보고 있지만 몸으로 와서 닿는 김창영의 회화는 시촉각의 응집체로서 현실과 친숙하면서도 현실을 능가하며 우리의 낯선 감각을 깨운다.
Kim Chang-young (b. 1957) creates highly realistic depictions of sandy beaches using actual sand, capturing scenes that are commonly found on shorelines. In his works, the sand particles fill the surface of the painting, creating an illusion that makes the artwork appear lifelike. This illusory effect is one of the key features of Kim Chang-young's work, and at its core, it reflects his fundamental goal of recording a visual world that cannot be physically touched. By invoking elements like reflections on water, rainbows in the sky, and the shadows of sand, Kim brings to life intangible aspects of reality through painting. While the viewer sees the scene with their eyes, they are drawn into a sensorial experience, where Kim's paintings, as a fusion of visual and tactile sensations, become both familiar and yet transcend reality, awakening unfamiliar sensations within us.
